Smiles was formed in September 2000 by Simon Prior and Les Birkenhead. Both had extensive commercial experience with Simon having run a multi branched Fish and Chip shop company.

It was with this experience that Simon realised that, in order to operate a successful shop, quality and customer service cannot be compromised, and that profit must not be the sole objective.

The directors aim to present shops that are contemporary in look and feel, while offering the best possible product. They have invested heavily in the latest Dutch frying ranges and place great emphasis on staff training, focusing on both the cooking processes and customer service. So, our mission statement is to bring Fish and Chips into the 21st Century; our products are always fresh, cooked to order, and sourced from market leaders within our industry.

We are listed in the 'Top 100 Fish and Chips shops in the UK' guide, received the Fryers Quality Award in 2001, have been reviewed by the local press, and have even been mentioned by our very own Susan Shaw as one of her ten most favourite things.
